Dedicated Traveler: #DixieTrip: New Orleans Snapshot

NOLA-2St Louis Cathedral – as captured from the Moonwalk on the banks of the Mississippi

There's something endlessly charming about New Orleans and an undeniable energy sizzling through the air that's not just the humidity.

The second you step off the plane you're met with a series of waves, a wall of humidity, the sound of music and the lingering scent of food. Yummy yummy food. The scent of good food cooking permeates the air almost everywhere leaving you craving constantly. Fortunately New Orleans delivers on the food front (more on that in a later post)

The character that resides deep in the bones of this city has seeped into the bones of it's residents – from the shoe shining con artists ("I bet I know where you got them shoes…on your feet") and the Alligator hunting host to the crazy former Floridian and vegan Gumbo dealer. Everyone has story, a smile and a moment to share their piece of their city with you.

It's a wonderful place that meets devastating hurricanes and loss of life with ever frequent parades to celebrate that very life. Resiliency exists in it's very mortar. Even a funeral in this city is a joyful affair. New Orleans has a lot to offer, a lot to share and a visitor to her spirit filled streets has a lot to learn and embrace.

'Till next time New Orleans. I'll be back for sure. There's still more to learn.

I loved your photos and description of the city. If only other visitors picked up as much as you two did. (I’ve hosted many who leave and just go, “That was fun! What a pretty city!”)
