I think this would be an actual escape. The Treehotel in Swedish Lapland (where the reindeers reign y'all) currently features five rooms, The Cabin (pictured above), The Mirrorcube, The Nest, The Blue Cone and The UFO, with plans to expand to 25 over the next few years.
All the rooms have been designed by various Scandinavian architects and overnight stays begin at $450. Treehotel is located in Harads, near the Lule river, in Swedish Lapland and the concept was inspired by the film ”The Tree Lover” by Jonas Selberg Augustsen, which tells the tale of three men from the city who want to go back to their roots by building a tree house together. “The Tree Lover” is a philosophic story about the significance of trees for us human beings." says the website.
In creating the rooms they have sought to have as little impact on the environment around them, they build on live trees, not cutting them down or clearing the surrounding forest. Each room is equipped with energy efficient mod cons – even down to the toilets – the rooms feature environmentally friendly combustion toilets where everything is incinerated at 600 °C. The toilets are also completely odourless and powered by electricity, with the exception the Mirrorcube, which has a freezing-toilet (I've no idea what that means either) also electrically powered and completely odourless. In winter, it also contributes to heating. I bet you never thought you'd find me discussing toilets on Dedicated…haha.
Anyone fancy taking a trip? ;)
