The Seam Ripper show was the highlight of the FBI show at the CMC last week. From the moment Gaga burst out of the sound system and the beautiful Kim (of Dollimou!) pounded down the runway in a Gaga-esque get up, leggings, a top made entirely of safety pins, plus an awesome military cap complete with Mickey Mouse ears, I was sold…it almost didn't matter what the rest of the collection looked like, that's what a little showmanship can do!
Fortunately for Seam Ripper the collection was impressive, not something that is easy to do when you're mostly a t-shirt line, in a sea of other t-shirt lines. The graphics were fun, interesting and certainly stood out, and the styling was imppecable. A particular favourite of mine was a cute velour hoodie with a tuxedo bib and red bowtie, so kitsch and so fab.
I honestly think the Seam Ripper boys are one's to watch, whilst the collection was a little all over the place (personally I'd drop the ombre/tie dye dresses), I think as they mature as designers that's something they'll be able to edit and reign in. The collection had the humour and vivacity of Jeremy Scott, who's gone leaps and bounds since starting his collection in Los Angeles, and I wish Seam Ripper the same success.
