I'll freely admit to not being a menswear aficionado…I know what I like and I know what I don't like when it comes to menswear…like many men I'm sure, and that's about it, we are, in general, a womens wear site.
But B.Scott…I liked. A lot. What impressed me about the collection, shown Monday night at Concept, Los Angeles, were the fabrics, there were unusual takes on denim, some fabrics had a sheen to them, a coating that gave a structured and somewhat industrial feel to the garments. Some rich heavyweight jerseys softened the looks. What I enjoyed the most was the juxtaposition between this industrialized aesthetic and an aesthetic that had a gentlemanly quality to it. Timeless silhouettes, a reefer jacket and double breasted cardigans were updated in heavy jersey with interesting details, giving, and don't laugh, a fisherman/nautical vibe to the whole collection.
This was streetwear done right, I'm not a fan of too baggy or too blingy..haha, and B. Scott really managed this balance well.
Interestingly enough Scott, my husband (affectionately
known as Mr. Style on Twitter) accompanied me, being my birthday (and his
birthday mere days before) It was his first ever fashion show and as someone who in his own words "just doesn't get fashion" he was quite enamored with the collection also.
I always find it amusing when he states he doesn't "get fashion" as it comes from a gentleman who has the best style (not to mention taste) of any guy I have ever dated…which is why I married him (not really the reason…but we do have a very complimentary style and rarely differ on what we do and don't like) He has a highly developed sense of style stemming from his art background and spending the past decade working professionally as a graphic designer.
So coming from my Scott…B. Scott couldn't be getting a better compliment.
(my photos were not that great so for a better look at the collection Apparel News has some great ones here)
