As mentioned yesterday I'm loving neon – the love has been there for quite some time (since last summer) but it's getting a little out of control.
As I sat there contemplating making myself a dayglo pony bead bracelet I realised with equal parts alarm and nostalgia that the last time I was this obsessed with neon I was 13, it was the late nineties and rave culture had infiltrated fashion (along with kitsch) and I braided my entire head and added dayglo pony beads.
So with this in mind and the collective fashion consciousness seemingly embracing neon (I blame Proenza Schouler and Christopher Kane mostly) I wonder. Is fashion headed towards a nineties comeback? I mean we've already seen grunge.. it would seem a logical progression, or at least a chronological one.
I don't see myself adorned with rubber spikes and pvc anytime soon and I won't be reproducing the braids or this one Bjork inspired hair do where I'd twist my hair into little knots and pin them to my scalp. I also used to think glitter was the best eyeshadow ever, I've learned better. But a more grown up version, neon lace a la Kane, neon silk ala Jill Sander. Sure. That I can get on board with.
And perhaps I will make that dayglo pony bead bracelet.
