A view of the ocean from the food court
Last week I was invited to attend a preview event for the new Santa Monica Place shopping centre. We gathered on the rooftop patio of Xino, a modern Chinese restaurant headed up by chef Chris Yeo, the sun was shining, we munched mushroom and truffle oil dumplings and supped fruity cocktails whilst socialising with the store managers from the malls plethora of stores, such as Ever, Burberry, Louis Vuitton and Barneys Co-op.
The view from Xino's Patio
The gorgeous district manager of Ever (my new favourite line) wearing an amazing Ever silk maxi dress.
Montana, Jessica and Jennifer Margolin.
Hanging out in the cabanas on the Xino Deck.
What I'm Wearing: Dress and Necklace: Forever 21, Purse: Courtesy of Saddleback Leather (this was gifted as part of the LBD Experiment Bloggers Gifts), Shoes: Vintage.
This bag is pretty darn awesome, I've been after a classic satchel for awhile so receiving this from Saddleback Leather for the Little Black Dress Experiment was a wonderful treat. It's a very sturdy leather bag (a little tough to begin but it will wear beautifully) in a gorgeous deep brown and it's classic shape is not only practical but will go with everything – yay!
Anyhoo, back to the mall! After we were suitable tipsy we were taken on a tour of the premises, there was still a lot of work going on, boxes being unpacked and staff running around, but it felt fantastic to be a part of this huge unveiling, there was definitely excitement in the air! The food court was extremely impressive and certainly not your average mall fare. A large outdoor patio, complete with cabanas and fireplace overlooks the ocean and the decor felt far more like a beautiful hotel than a food court…no canteen atmosphere here! In fact, with valet and full concierge service, the mall certainly does reflect a hotel-like hospitality.
The Brit suddenly finds herself back in London outside All Saints (who were still making last minute preparations!)
The selection of stores is quite fantastic, from high end stores such a Burberry Brit (the first West Coast outlet) and Louis Vuitton to California classics such as Fluxus (Jeffrey Sebelia of Project Runway's line) and Ever to British brand All Saints.
The Style Bar at Bloomingdale's, with fitting rooms which can rise into the ceilings to create more floor space.
Our tour ended at the Bloomingdale's Preview Event, we were each gifted (amongst a bag full of goodies) a $25 gift card to Bloomingdale's. The store is smaller than some Bloomingdale's and described as a 'concept' store. The selection available is mostly contemporary, and only Mens and Womens (no Childrens or Home departments) it felt like a giant Barney's Co-Op (which interestingly enough has it's own store at the mall)
Unfortunately I did not purchase anything as I became increasingly unwell as the day went on, and had to leave empty handed. Turns out I was pretty poorly, as those of you who follow me on Twitter know after being subjected to my miserable tweets over the past few days! I'm a whiny sick person – but I'm feeling much better now – thanks. I will however be returning to Santa Monica Place in the next few weeks to spend my gift card (at the very least!) and I definitely recommend you do too!
