I spent the best part of decade, my first ever "career", working in retail. As a 'shopgirl' I found myself not only needing to learn everything about the store I worked in, but the area I worked in. Whether this was to service my customers better, or just to be able to pick up a quick and decent lunch and a dress to wear that night in under an hour, it didn't matter. I became an expert on my surrounding area, and quickly.

Therefore it's only natural for me, when visiting a new city (or pottering around my own), to ask the most stylish 'shopgirls' in the most stylish stores, what they recommend in the surrounding area. When visiting San Francisco last month, I decided to turn this traveling tip into an ongoing series, interviewing local 'shopgirls' and getting their advice on the area in which they worked.

So for this, the  San Francisco edition of 'ShopGirl', I interviewed, Maddie and Blakely of RAG in Hayes Valley, Katie of Ambiance at Haight Ashbury and Jessie of Ver Unica in Hayes Valley.
