So, here's something you didn't know about me. I adore the smell of brass and bronze, as a child my favourite household chore was to polish the brass and bronze objects around the fireplace, I loved bringing the patina'd metal objects up to a shiny finish, it felt like a real accomplishment to be removing the soot and revealing the glow of the objects beneath. So now, like a sense memory, the smell of brass and bronze sends me right back to childhood.
There is a point to this I promise. The other day whilst working away at Fashion Los Angeles HQ, I caught a whiff off this fantastic scent, actually I'm kidding, this was an occasion where I went into Magpie vision from across the room as I saw Michael begin to unwrap pretty shiny things…in leaps and bounds I ran over and adorned myself.
It turns out Fashion Los Angeles' partners, architecture firm, Marmol Radziner, have a knack for the jewelry as well as the buildings! The beautiful bronze pieces pictured above are by Marmol Radziner. The pieces are weighty, made from commercial grade bronze, but sat nicely on my wrists and fingers, each piece is hand made with patina's ranging from light bronze to a deep patina and each piece is marked with a subtle pattern of holes.
My absolute favourite piece is in the third photo down, the cuff with the dark patina and the glimmer of bronze coming through. Somehow the Marmol Radziner team, using their finely honed eye for detail and craftsmanship have created pieces wearable architecture. No small feat, but then again neither was building the Eiffel Tower, leave it to the architects to create something of beauty eh?
Just in case you were wondering how much I love the smell of bronze…after the jewelry was all packed away I sat there sniffing my wrist like I just sprayed on the latest Chanel perfume…I'm an odd one.
