The 2000’s have seen the revival of many trends, from the
bell bottoms of the ‘60s to the shoulder pads of the ‘80s. Lately, ‘90s fashion
has shown up on the catwalks and on the street, and I’d be remiss if I talked
about ‘90s fashion without mentioning grunge!
The grunge look was all about distressed clothing: ripped
jeans, torn tights, and tattered oversized flannel shirts. Distressed gear has
definitely made a comeback as of late, with Taylor Momsen and the Olsen twins
wearing laddered tights proudly and with just a twinge of irony.
To keep from looking like you’re at a Nirvana concert, stick
to one distressed piece of clothing at a time, whether that’s holey jeans, torn
tights or a tattered blouse. Accessorize with muted colors and organic
materials and bring out your inner rocker chick with studs and leather. Try to
stick to slim fitting pants so the holes don’t overwhelm with you. This trend
has been around for awhile and while I don’t think it will last much longer,
wearing distressed clothes in combination with polished pieces is the best way
for this trend to go out with class. Most of all, have fun with this look! You
no longer need to throw out a pair of pants if they get a hole in them; rip
them up and make a look out of it!
