Seeing black on the Spring/Summer runways was both surprising and somewhat logical. The Fall/Winter trends of 2009 had exuded eighties severity, leather. studs and toughness was everywhere, so really it was only natural that some of that would filter into Spring/Summer.Personally, and this has a lot to do with climate, I don't see myself wearing this trend much past Spring. It's just too heavy for a Southern California summer (and I'm sure many summers elsewhere)
That said I'm craving a pair of leather shorts and studded shoes to wear now! Leather shorts shouldn't be super short or super tight. Look for shorts that cut away from the leg with a higher wait. These one's pictured above are perfect, if you can't afford ones like that (they're not cheap) look for vintage styles. Soften up the look with a drapey tee or go really feminine with a sheer blouse. The easiest way to inject this energy into your style all summer long is with a shoe or a bag and there are plenty of options out there!
This is your urban armour, everyone needs a little protection in the big city and this look and the subsequent trends we'll bring you this week exude a toughness that will keep you sharp(ly styled!) all season long.
