Madonna's style influences are undeniable from the early eighties onwards and she has remained somewhat of an icon, during the eighties and throughout its revival. Possibly one of my favorite Madonna songs, if not just for the video, would have to be Vogue. My eyes are drawn to anything black and white. Madonna seemed to favor fashion inspired by past eras, and this video is just fab for fashion and she is emulating many of the people upon which she lists in the song, for example Marilyn Monroe. The video is particularly inspired by The Golden Age of Hollywood and the set design is very art deco.
Many of the shots are recreations of photographs by the photographer Horst P. Horst, and possibly the most memorable of these recreations is the "Mainbocher Corset".
I was struck by the idea of power, and success. And I've come up with a couple of looks to represent two of the styles in this video that were most memorable. One of which resembles the idea of power dressing which was very prominent in the 1980s, and one of Hollywood glamour.
