I think neon is another trend that can be a little scary. Heck, A lot of the 80's was just plain scary.
Above are some examples of neon worked subtly. I think its key to let the structure of your neon pieces stay simple and to pair the colors with Neutrals. That way you aren't going overboard. However, I'm also all for some tasteful "clashing" as seen in the gorgeous Dries Van Noten show.
