Meet Carter.
Part cattle dog, part collie, part lab (?) and pure joy. Carter isn’t mine but he has my heart. My dearest friend Joe had been on the look out for the perfect pupper partner in crime, and spotted a potential soul mate on the website of the Three Rivers Humane Society in Madras Oregon.
Cue road trip.
Both of the main routes to Madras were snowed in, so we opted to take the long route out through the Dalles. It was my first time taking this route and the high desert scenery juxtaposed with the snow, was really beautiful.
Upon arrival at Three Rivers, we met this guy. He had our hearts right away. But, there were some concerns, he was a little younger than we anticipated and therefore it would be harder to crate train him for longer periods of time. So we needed to do some due diligence.
PSA. If you’re considering adopting any pets. Do due diligence. This is the right thing to do. It’s so important to make sure you’re financially responsible enough to take care of a pup and that you have time in your schedule to give them the attention they need.
Spoiler alert, Joe worked out he could do it while we spent the night in a magically snowy Bend, OR. Not kidding, the pretty flurrying kind of snow that fluttered around and gently blanketed Bend in a few inches.
Over a yummy breakfast at Jackson’s Corner (highly recommend) we crunched a few numbers. There may or may not have been a marriage proposal while Joe considered that Carter might be better raised by two parents, but instead I promised to be a really devoted aunt.
So… we got Carter (it wasn’t until later that I realized my gentle suggestion of this name definitely subliminally came from my recent binge rewatching of E.R)
Pure happiness.
Home at last.
And I’ve done a pretty good job of living up to being a devoted aunt. I get to babysit quite frequently, and we’ve done a good job discovering the dog friendly bars in town.
