The librarian look is very in for Spring/Summer 2010. The
best part about this trend is that you probably have all the components in your
closet already – you just have to put them together! Think fabrics like boucle
and tweed, separates like cropped cardigans, smocked blouses with high necks, pencil
skirts, and most importantly – shoes! From oxfords to brogues to loafers,
librarian style shoes were all over the runway this season. As a proud owner of some black
oxfords, I can attest to the fact that they’re the perfect transition shoe when
it’s not snowy enough for winter boots but still too cold out for summer pumps
or sandals. They’re also extremely practical: fun enough to wear on the town
but still sensible enough to wear to work.

Subtly ramp up your separates by switching to luxe fabrics,
like this leather Calvin Klein number, and don’t forget to accessorize your
librarian look. Pair your outfits with big glasses, satchel purses, academia
inspired jewelry and knee highs for a quirky, fun, and completely individual
look. Remember that floral prints are very in this spring, as well as pastels
and layers! I can think of nothing better than a cute floral cardigan to wear for
shifting from winter to spring.

Keep the look light and keep it pretty to avoid looking costumey. Mix and match patterns, prints and textures to make it fun. If you wear a high neck, wear a shorter skirt. It's important to not look like an old lady! (But if you do want to go the old lady route, make sure it's a crazy old lady!)

How would you wear the librarian look?

Great article my dear! I was totally wearing a floral cardigan yesterday in anticipation of spring. It needs to come fast! :)
