Nuvula, an Eco collection from Columbian designer Rebeca Victoria, kicked off the Concept Fashion Week Spring 2012 collections.
Her eco line consisted of pieces inspired by the wings of butterflies and the sun, with additional 20’s, 30’s and Art Deco inspirations – in both geometric shapes, patterns and silhouettes. Inspiration was also drawn from Asian luxury – Chinese and Japanese hybrids and Samurai armors.
Her extensive collection is made with sustainable fabrics such as hemp and bamboo and low impact H20 dyes. In addition Nuvula uses no animal products, choosing to use only vegan leathers. Nuvula is strictly anti-fur and does not even use faux fur as to discourage and diminish the public appetite for fur.
The show itself was very long from an opening operatic piece to an over 60 item collection, it would definitely have benefitted from editing – by the 30th piece or so, the crowd were restless and good will was waning. But the collection was strong, the silhouettes and palettes interesting – I just didn't need to see every ounce of it!
